3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs continues in contrasting righteous and wicked. ALL SHOW – NO GO; SIMPLE is BETTER! “Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant than he who honors himself and lacks bread” (Proverbs 12:9). One’s image is worth little! (The combination of low rank and food on the table is better than pretended status with starvation.) This is a very relevant proverb in which we see two men. The first is despised by the world, for he does not make the splashy show the world values. He is a simple, hardworking man, who prefers peace and quiet at home to any worldly party or popularity. By hard work he has achieved a modest measure of comfort and success – he has a servant for companionship and labor. The second man is popular and flashy, always seeking the approval and limelight of the world. He moves in the popular circles in town and presents himself as charming and successful wherever he can. But his image is all show, for he is basically broke, especially if his debts were paid! Thinking work is beneath him, he lives mainly for image. The simple, honest man is better than the pretentious fool. So many fall victim to temptations: peer pressure is powerful; easy credit makes it possible to live beyond one’s means; and corrupt bankruptcy laws allow pretenders to start over when debtors claim their assets. True success is working hard, enjoying simple domestic pleasures, and living a contented and godly life. Modest possessions with love, peace, and righteousness are better than even wealth with trouble. Wise men ignore what the world thinks; they will NOT use foolish debt to buy nice things beyond their means. They choose the lower seat in public life. Frequent divorces, substance abuse, and dysfunctional lives expose the lifestyles of the rich and famous. The lie of image does NOT pay; it destroys men. The New Testament says: “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever” (1John 2:15-17). Many persons, especially the young, waste and wound their lives worrying about what others think, though it means nothing in terms of real value. What God thinks of you is far more important than what the world thinks. *****

//Standing Prayer: Always remembering our country, for restoration, our continued peace, and freedom; we ask that You grant wisdom and guidance to those who are in authority, and we pray; and for the protection of our men and women who are on the battlefield, we pray. Lord, heal our land, we pray. There are people in other parts of the world who need protection and relief as they are surrounded by war and poverty; also in need of rescue are Christians who are being persecuted, and we pray.
And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For anyone who has a difficult time praying for others, we pray. (This is probably not the website they should be on! 🙂

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Continuing in Proverbs to compare righteous and wicked lives. YOU are WISE or YOU are FOOLISH! “A man will be praised according to his insight, but one of perverse mind will be despised” (Proverbs 12:8). (People speak well of one who has insight and acts wisely, but they have nothing but contempt for one who has no principles.) Well, what is a perverse person? One who thinks, speaks, and acts wrongly; doesn’t care what others think of him, has a foolish approach to life, is contrary, unreasonable, ignorant of wisdom, obstinate, impulsive, irritating, and offensive; neither fears nor loves God, has no desire or regard for godliness or holiness; that person will be despised. On the other hand, wisdom works and will bring you honor. This has nothing to do with intelligence; education is not the issue. All that matters is wisdom. Well, what is wisdom? The power and ability of good and right judgement, and knowing just what to do in a variety of conditions. One who has wisdom sees a situation and responds the way in which God would expect. He/she has knowledge and understanding, is discreet and prudent, has foresight, is fair and kind, and exalts mercy and truth. Well, just how does one go about obtaining this wisdom? It starts by fearing God, then adding His commandments and His hatred of evil, avoiding even a little folly for it can quickly cause your wisdom to stink! (See Ecclesiastes 10:1.) Wisdom is freely offered in the book of Proverbs and the rest of the Bible. The opportunity is there for anyone who is willing to read and learn. A day is coming when the Lord Jesus will judge all men; every life will be examined by Him and nothing will be hidden. He will commend some and despise others. The wise who obeyed His word will hear Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). Those who have been foolish will hear, “I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23). On that judgement day, will you be commended or despised? The choice is yours! *****

There are people in other parts of the world who need protection and relief as they are surrounded by war and poverty; also in need of rescue are Christians who are being persecuted, and we pray.
And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For anyone who is seeking wisdom, we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs continues to contrast right and wicked lives. INVEST IN GOD’S PROMISES! “The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand” (Proverbs 12:7). (When justice catches up with the wicked, that’s the end of them. Godly people have a good foundation, they are not swept away by calamity.) Sin has natural consequences which destroy the wicked. (Foolish spending reduces the rich to rags; pride costs kings battles, even wars; sexual indulgence brings terrible diseases; drunkenness causes accidents and destroys families; murder can bring capital punishment. Disrespectful speech, excessive sleep and laziness can cost one their job.) God is on the side of the righteous man. For one who may not understand: seek the Lord while He may be found; repent of your sins; beg God for forgiveness; make restitution for wrongs; learn righteousness from the Bible. (Look at Psalm 112 and make it your prayer.) God gives righteous men and women peace, protection and prosperity. There is a reward for the righteous. Let God’s holy word, the Bible, be the constant and only roadmap for your life.

And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For anyone who is trying to be patient, to patiently wait on You, Lord, and we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs continues. WATCH YOUR MOUTH! “The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright will deliver them” (Proverbs 12:6). (By their speech sinners seek to lay fatal traps for the innocent and unsuspecting person. Upright men deliver themselves and others by speaking the truth.) The wicked want to destroy the helpless, oppressed, or the righteous, through confusion, enticement, slander and/or entrapment; by conspiring to steal their assets, and pursuing them to death. The wicked person feeds on greed, envy or malice. But the upright men/women use their mouths to deliver the helpless, the oppressed, and the righteous from trouble. They only want to speak the truth and help those who are being persecuted. One should always use their words to help those who are in trouble, because the holy and just God rewards or punishes accordingly. Is there someone walking along your pathway today who may need encouraging words from your mouth?

And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For anyone who is attempting to restore a relationship, we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs continues to compare righteous and wicked lifestyles. WHO is in THE REFLECTION WHICH is LOOKING BACK at YOU? “The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the counsels of the wicked are deceitful” (Proverbs 12:5). (The goals of the righteous are honorable, and, just as surely, the plans of the wicked are deceitful.) In other words, a man’s aims are a mirror of his character. The New Testament says: “The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart” (Luke 6:45). (Your thoughts prove your real character. You make the choice every day to be right or wicked.) One who is morally pure and spiritually healthy can bring forth blessings for others out of the good treasure of his heart. On the other hand, one who is basically impure only brings forth evil. But, like a child, one’s heart needs to be taught right from wrong. We must teach our own hearts and guard our choices, for the world is corrupt and will attempt to lead us toward insane and wicked ideas. To become a man/woman of godly character: pray; confess your sins; and ask God to fill your mind with right thinking. Read the bible daily and make today your best day of thoughts! *****

There are people in other parts of the world who need protection and relief as they are surrounded by war and poverty; also in need of rescue are Christians who are being persecuted, and we pray.
And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For anyone who is attempting to resolve a conflict, we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs has much to say about right vs. wrong. LISTEN UP WOMAN or SHAME ON YOUR HUSBAND! “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones” (Proverbs 12:4). (An excellent wife brings joy and gladness to her husband. The one who disgraces her husband gives him a terrible letdown – as if his bones rotted away.) Another translation reads: “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones” (Proverbs 12:4). (A virtuous woman is a noble, gracious, diligent, and loving woman. She faithfully honors and pleases her husband. But an odious woman shames her husband and slowly kills him on the inside by selfishness, stubbornness, foolishness, or unfaithfulness.) Christian woman, humble yourself! The character and conduct that make a woman virtuous are as visible to others as her appearance. there is only one way to be such a woman. Fear the Lord above all. Confess your sins to God and your husband; put aside your own ideas and habits, trust the Word of God without question; and cheerfully do everything written in the Bible for women; eliminate all bitterness and self-righteousness. (Want to be excellent? Read Proverbs 31:10-31 and become your husband’s cheerful and loving companion, his most faithful supporter, his most loyal confidant, his most ardent friend, his most tireless helper, the world’s greatest lover, a domestic goddess in household duties, a queen of hospitality and social graces, and the perfect mother of his children.) You and your husband will be far happier for it; your children will be happier; and the Lord of heaven will reward you. And to the man: God created the woman for you, and He has written the perfect marriage manual for you to have a crown of pure gold. She needs to be in a church that preaches the whole counsel of God. And you need to do what you can to lead, encourage, and direct her toward obeying the Bible. If she does not fear and love God, then you are in serious trouble. Virtuous women are rare, very rare and if you are married to one, then you are greatly blessed, for such a woman is a divine blessing from heaven. Give thanks to God for saving you from a slow and painful death. There is hope; the word of God can cure the rottenness in your bones. Help your wife to believe and obey by trusting in the Lord. Have a blessed Sunday! *****

//Standing Prayer: Always remembering our country, for restoration, our continued peace, and freedom; we ask that You grant wisdom and guidance to those who are in authority, and we pray; and for the protection of our men and women who are on the battlefield, we pray. There are people in other parts of the world who need protection and relief as they are surrounded by war and poverty; also in need of rescue are Christians who are being persecuted, and we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs continues, right vs. wrong. STAND YOUR GROUND!“A man will not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will not be moved” (Proverbs 12:3). Lives that are dominated by wickedness have no stability; wicked living is popular but will not work for long, since God will destroy such men and their families. They are like the seed which fell on the rocky places (Matthew 13:5,6); the earth was shallow and because they had no root, the seeds quickly withered away. A righteous man has his root deep in God. He is able to stand when the storms of life blow. “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does he prospers” (Psalms 1:3). ) Only godliness can preserve and establish a man or family permanently. Godly men and their families will outlast the wicked and theirs. Choices today determine one’s future. *****

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

Proverbs continues to compare righteous and wicked lives. GOD KNOWS the ACTIONS of MEN! His favor can make all the difference in the world in a man’s life. “A good man will obtain favor from the Lord, but He will condemn a man who devises evil” (Proverbs 12:2). (A moral, ethical person can be sure of the Lord’s favor. A man of wicked intentions can be equally sure of His condemnation.) Your choices today will either be good in His sight, or they will be wicked. The New Testament says, “Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you” (James 4:10). “For, the one who desires life, to love, and see good days, must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. He must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears attend to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (1Peter 3:10-12). To love life and see good days: Do not be a fool! Be good; and do good!

And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For any man who may be experiencing a marriage dilemma or conflict with his wife this day, consider this: “Women respond well to a loving and gentle touch; a calm and reasonable voice, one that is not argumentative, never impatient, not arrogant or unbearable…and if all those things are in place a resolution is bound to happen. Women need to know that their opinions matter, too. One way in which a man can provide for his wife is to really listen to her, not with ears, but with the heart. A man who listens in such a way will be guided with wisdom from Above. A woman’s language and communication is at it’s best when the man in her life shows tenderness at every crossroad.” (Author, Kittye Sharron) And, we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

ONE WHO DOESN’T LOVE THIS is STUPID! “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid” (Proverbs 12:1). (Anyone who is open to discipline and instruction shows that he really wants to learn. The man who resents being told anything and refuses correction is just plain stupid!) In order to learn one must love knowledge, but whoever hates correction is not very wise. If we find that we are upset when our faults are pointed out to us, that shows we are lacking understanding. That would be behaving in what scripture refers to as ‘stupid’. One who is too proud and unwilling to receive correction reveals his/her own rejection of knowledge. Wisdom tells us to keep learning; to be humble, and to have a willingness to be taught in order to gain knowledge. There are several reasons why a love of knowledge requires a love of discipline as well. Without disciplining ourselves to spend adequate time studying we will not learn anything. Real knowledge always has an element of discipline attached to it. If we truly want knowledge it will come to us, but we must apply ourselves, and submit to godly counsel from those of whom God places on our life’s pathway. Each and every day we are faced with multiple opportunities to be a lover of knowledge rather than a stupid man or woman. The difference is how we respond to discipline. Do we submit ourselves to it and learn; or do we reject it and remain in a world constructed of our own ignorance and stupidity? One should embrace reproof, correction and discipline; recognize the kindness of another who corrects you. Such correction is a kindness from God, Who ultimately wants us to turn from foolishness and embrace His blessed wisdom. Progress requires change. In order to grow in knowledge we must appreciate and accept instruction, which is the greatest key to success. It will only happen when one is truly ready to be taught by another which requires humility on our part, because it has discipline attached to it. If one is ready to receive instruction, humbly eager to be taught by Him, He will send teachers to increase one’s knowledge.  Oh, for a teachable spirit to sit at the feet of our Divine Master and learn from Him.

And so we begin, “Just for Today”: For anyone who may be allowing anger and blame to take away his/her family, we pray.

3 a.m. prayer:

Most gracious heavenly Father,

EVEN THE GOOD GET PUNISHED! “If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner! (Proverbs 11:31). (Even righteous people are chastised and punished in this life for their misdeeds. If the righteous reap what they sow, how much more do the ungodly? If the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?) Because of suffering and discipline, the righteous work out their salvation with difficulty.  The New Testament says, “Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler; but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. For it is time for judgement to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do no obey the gospel of God? And it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the godless man and the sinner? Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God, shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right” (1Peter 4:15-19). (Your eternal reward or punishment – heaven or hell – will far exceed any earthly reward or punishment. The righteous should not despair that there is no reward for them now, and the wicked should not presume to think they can live today without unpleasant consequences.) God will repay men on earth for their actions. You are not hidden from His eyes; you are not lost in the crowd. The righteous will be blessed; the wicked will be punished. Both the righteous and the wicked suffer adversity on earth, but God treats them very differently. Spiritual men know this; they understand His present and future dealings. Life is hard, but the righteous are loved now and later; the wicked are despised now and later. Eternity is still the best view of life. Righteous reader, take comfort! Sinner, beware! *****
